It is very important the visitor receive your phone call in the first 24 hours of their visit!  Studies have reported that is the call is not received within 24 hours, the significance of the call diminishes.

Your call is to welcome the new comer, in a non-pressured, non-intrusive way.
 

Please do not engage or get caught up in gossip about why they are leaving their previous parish.  This is especially important if they are attending a local congregation.  However, if they offer hurt, anger or other feelings about where they have been attending, you may be sympathetic, while directing the conversation towards more positive avenues.
