St. Catherine's Youth Pilgrimage
July 13 - 21, 2001
Friday, July 13

We’ve arrived safely at  our overnight stop in Cheyenne.  The trip went very well.  Everything was just perfect.  We arrived at the airport and checking went as smoothly as one might expect with 13 people trying to check in at the same time.  We are sad that Julia could not travel with us.  Her grandmother, Zelma Denton, died last night.  We are keeping her in our prayers and we ask you back home as well to pray.  Julia is attending the funeral tomorrow and the burial Sunday and will catch up with us in Rapid City on Monday.

The flight was smooth and pleasant.  We stopped in Kansas City and arrived in Denver 5 minutes early.  Joan and Scott stayed at the airport to collect luggage with the kids and Jim and Judy went to get the vans.  There was torrential rain in and around Denver and our trip to get the vans included one of those storms.  We finally made it back to the airport and left there at 5:00 PM Mountain time.  The traffic was terrible even though we intentionally stayed away from Denver.

We made the trip from Denver to Cheyenne in two hours even though we had heavy traffic and on and off showers.  Cheyenne had had heavy rains prior to our arrival.  We saw lots of flooding.

We went to Avanti’s Italian Restaurant all you can eat for $8.95.  It was really good food and the waitress was entertained.  It was a great trade off.  We’re back at the motel for the evening and everyone is off to the pool.  We leave here at 9:30 AM on our way to Hill City.

We were proud of the kids.  The trip from Atlanta was 5 hours on the plane and they were well behaved – a bit overbearing at
times, but well behaved.  We’re all tired – I think.  It’s 12:20 AM Atlanta time and they all just left to go swimming because the
pool closes at 11:00 PM.

Keep us in your prayers for safe travel and for care for one another.  Hope you enjoy our pictures.

We finally got packed and are ready for a group shot.  We pulled away from the church at 10:15 AM.

We are sooooo hungry.  All the lunches were practically eaten before we  got on board and there was 5 hours to go.
We’re on the plane.  We only changed the seat arrangement twice in the flight to Denver.
The vans finally arrived from the rental place.  The Denver airport is in the middle of nowhere.  The guys do guy things.
While the guys do guy things the girls practice emergency van escape procedures.
We are soooooo hungry, again!  I’m sure my mom taught me to eat spaghetti this way.
