St. Catherine's Youth Pilgrimage
July 13 - 21, 2001

Sunday, July 15

We started a little later this morning and we sure needed the rest.  Breakfast was made by a wonderful team A, and they had
such a great technique of opening cereal boxes.  Great job, team A.  Of course the Rector’s presence on the team should in no
way influence our judgements.

Breakfast was followed by an outdoor Eucharist in which we used the labyrinth for the first time.  As part of the sermon, we were to look into each other’s eyes along the way remembering those times we had beaten, robbed and left each other along the way.  We thought about how we could be the Good Samaritan this week binding up each other’s wounds.  The Rev. Linda Kramer our host and spiritual guide for the week and Fr. Jim concelebrated the Eucharist using a pilgrimage Eucharistic prayer.

We were off then to Flag Mountain for a  hike to 7000 feet above sea level.  The view was spectacular and we learned about the Vision Quest of our native brothers and sisters.  We may go back for an overnight.  After lunch it was off to the lake for some swimming – but the storm clouds rolled in and the wind kicked up.  A few, very few, brave souls jumped in.

Back the ranch for a couple hours of recreation.  Fr. Jim and Camille were the last two survivors in our Survivor game, but got
voted off probably because of some of his antics up to that point.  Don’t ever vote against Nick or Tyler Wolfe or Scott Hueke.
They remember with a vengence!

Our big event of the afternoon was the hour spent in silence from 6 to 7 PM.  We are going to spend the same hour each day so that we can journal, hike, walk the labyrinth or whatever gives us some spiritual sense.  A great job was accomplished and many tonight in reflections thought it was the best part of the day.  The Borderlands Ranch is very different from the world of Marietta and East Cobb.  We are really noticing the difference and doing some reflection on how that impacts our spiritual well being.

We are looking forward to seeing Julia in the morning and to a day in Rapid City.  The sweat lodge is coming Tuesday night.

Team B preparing our lunch for the day.  They sure do work hard.  Are they the only ones working?

We stop half way up Flag Mountain for a breathtaking view.  We were silent for a few minutes.  The silence was incredible.

We gather on top of Flag Mountain.  The story of Flag Mountain is one that brings pain, but it is now used for Vision
Quests and in some terms has brought reconciliation.
Kelly Snook ponders the world and life.  We all did!

The afternoon came to a close right after dinner with a brief rain shower that gave us the gift of this beautiful bow.  God’s promise to us is very much a part of hearts and minds this week.
