Chimayo, NM
Chimayo, NM; Great Sand Dunes
National Park, CO; Spring Canyon, Buena Vista,
CO/ 6.11.03; Today was
a day of great travel for the group. After a late
start (and omelets and cinnamon
rolls), we left for El Sanctuario De
Chimayo, a traditional pilgrimage
site for close to two centuries. The
pilgrims followed the traditional
pilgrim way to Chimayo, by walking the
final two miles to the site (out
of the usual 100 miles). After prayers in
the Chapel, the group collected
dirt from Chimayo which is known for it's
miraculous healing powers.
We then traveled to the Great
Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado. We
ended spending more of our day
there than expected, but the whole group
enjoyed climbing the mountainous
sand dunes. Michael Carter got the award
for the highest summit reached.
Mark Hogan got the award for the best
downhill roll. The entire
group was amazed at the beauty of the dunes and
at their sheer size. There
is simply no way to describe God's beautiful
creation in the dunes, you have
to experience it for yourself. Needless to
say, the group had a blast playing
in the sand. We finished the experience
with a great devotion led by
Catherine Boyd, while packed into a single van
to avoid the mosquitoes brought
on by dusk. As we left the dunes, we were
accompanied by the most spectacular
Indian Red sunset (see the attached
pictures).
After a quick dinner, we moved
on to Spring Canyon in Buena Vista, CO where
we slept in tents with beds for
the night.
Please know that we feel
the support of your love and
prayers. This is a great
experience and is even more special with your love
and support.
In Christ,
Your Pilgrims!!!
